   Terry Jean Parrish is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Professional School Counselor and a Professionally Certified Teacher. Terry also holds National Counseling Certification through the NBCC (National Board of Counselors) with degrees from University of Detroit Mercy and Oakland University. She has spent over 12 years building a portfolio of experience in a wide variety of settings (school and agency) to enhance and improve the lives of the people she serves. Terry’s specialties include family and relationship issues, children and adolescents, crisis stabilization, mood disorders and group therapy. Terry has experience in the juvenile justice system and has testified and written court reports to support her clients.

Terry’s counseling philosophy is an eclectic approach using CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), solution-focused and family systems therapy to provide timely relief from distressing symptoms and problematic issues. Terry believes in helping her clients to set specific, realistic goals for therapy. Her desire is that upon leaving therapy clients will clearly identify their progress and be empowered to continue in their   positive growth as individuals, couples, and families.

Terry’s achievements include membership in Chi Sigma Iota (Honor Society of Counselors), University Of Detroit Education and Human Services Seminar Presentation Award, Grosse Pointe North Crisis Team Member, Successful completion CBT training in anger- management for use in groups, Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and current CPR and AED.

In her leisure Terry enjoys working out and reading. She resides in Shelby Township with her two sons, her husband, Rob and her Pug named Poker. Terry is excited to be a part of Grant Counseling Connection - Shelby, and shares Gail’s passion for helping people who otherwise would not be able to afford counseling. She offers a sliding scale fee or a 20% discount to clients facing hardship.
